We love smart things: smart phones, smart cars, smart boards in the classrooms and even smart watches. Even your home can be a little smarter if you have a smart thermostat. Whether you live in St. Louis or St. Lucia, in a two story suburban home or temporary housing downtown, a smart thermostat can make the most of your energy efficiency and maybe cut your utility bills.

Most folks have a programmable thermostat that can be set to turn on and off during certain times of the day. Why heat the house when everyone is at work or school? Program the thermostat to a lower temperature during the day and at 4 p.m., the furnace will crank back up to a temperature that will keep the family warm and toasty (or comfortably cool). It doesn’t sound like a lot of work, but with a smart thermostat, you can achieve the same result with even less work.

Many models use sensors to detect when you are at home or away. Other models track your furnace and air conditioning use and produce detail reports. Most of these thermostats work on wi-fi and many have apps that allow you to adjust the temperature in your home from your phone so you can leave work and by the time you get home, your place is nice and toasty.

St. Louis weather is unpredictable but with a smart thermostat, you can stay comfortable no matter how much the temperature swings and with many models available, you’re sure to find one to fit your space and budget.
